The Geumgangsan Diamond Mountains, 12,000 pinnacles with 12,000 miracles

The Geumgangsan Diamond Mountains stretch out over 40 kilometers of land, while reaching a height of 1,638 meters at its highest peek. The total 12,000 pinnacles offer spectacular views of the marvelous rock formations, valleys, and waterfalls. This breathtakingly scenic spot is one of a kind and is considered the most beautiful mountain range on the Korean peninsula. Since September of 1998, the Geumgangsan Diamond Mountains have been made accessible from South Korea. After 50 years of virtual non-travel into the north, the road leading up to North Korea opened allowing tourists view this amazing mountain range. Tourists to the region can also arrive via boat, however the tourists whom choose this path must return to the south by means of the land route. If you are looking for a more leisurely and comfortable mode of transportation then the trip via boat would be a good idea. On the other hand, if you are looking forward to the experience of crossing the border along the DMZ, then the land trip is for you.

Due to the fact the Geumgangsan Diamond Mountains are located in the still communist, North Korea, it is well advised to aware of the regulations of the area before you begin your journey. Once there, the tour guides will remind you regularly of the dos and don’ts of the area.
